Winter Carnival is coming to Jackson Hole this weekend! Starting tomorrow, locals and visitors alike will enjoy a wintery mix of arts, culture, dog racing and celebration.
Thursday, January 28th:
Jackson Hole Winter Carnival Kick-off and Winter Quick Draw
5:30 - 8:30pm at the National Museum of Wildlife Art
Art Admission: $10 members, $15 non-members, children under 18 are free.
Kick off the JH Winter Carnival at the Museum. More than a dozen renowned artists of particular local and regional interest will have just one hour to create an original work of art. The artists include four emerging artists from high schools in Jackson Hole. All works of art will be available for purchase by silent auction the evening of the event. National Museum of Wildlife Art Winter Film Series: Amba the Russian Tiger

Travel the globe as we screen films from the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival. Film is 52 minutes. This remarkable film tells the story of "Spirit Amba," the Russian Tiger. Cameraman Gordon Buchanan travels through the dense forests of Ussuriland hoping for a glimpse of one of the rarest and most elusive animals on the planet. After traveling thousands of miles and meeting some of the most extraordinary people, Gordon finally comes to understand the nature of "Amba." For Gordon this was a life-changing experience. This beautifully crafted film was shot in the snowy hills of Eastern Russia, a region that was all but unknown to the West until just 100 years ago. Jackson Hole Winter Carnival: Film Screening Planet Earth: Mountains

Humans like to think that once they've climbed a peak, they've somehow conquered it. But they can only ever be visitors to this hostile world. Planet Earth introduces the 'real' mountaineers and discovers the secrets of their survival on the mightiest peaks of our planet. Planet Earth takes you on a tour of its mightiest mountain ranges, starting with the birth of a mountain at one of the lowest places on Earth and ending at the summit of Mount Everest.
