And Then It Was Mud Season

With the resorts closing up shop for the winter, we enter mud season--a love-hate time of year for Jackson locals. We get to welcome some long awaited sun and warm weather, but can't fully enjoy it until the 6-foot snow banks begin to melt. But if you get creative, there can be some activity to be had during this in-between time of year.

Road Biking. Although the mountain trails aren't quite ready for mountian biking, many of the country and park roads begin to open up for those who love a good, long road ride. Take the skinny tires out for a spin into Grand Teton National Park this weekend.

Cross Country Skiing. This massive snow year has allowed us to enjoy winter activity into the spring months. Nordic tracks still boast enough snow to put on the cross country skies and go for a mini trek. A tour around Jenny Lake, ending at Dornan's for yummy eats, is a local favorite.

River Activity. Believe it or not, water warriors are already breaking out the kayaks, rafts, and fly rods and heading to the Snake River as it begins to rise from spring runnoff.

Spring Skiing. And of course, if you simply aren't ready to say good bye to the winter that was, then there's always a quick trip up Glory or into Jackson's surrounding backcountry for some turns on great corn snow. Make sure to check avalanche conditions before you go.

And if you're ready to revel in a few weeks sans physical activity, check out the events going on in Jackson Hole these next few weeks.
