Local Information

Located in west-central Wyoming at the entrance of Grand Teton National Park, Jackson Hole refers to a 48-mile long valley surrounded by high mountains, hence the “hole” that encompasses the towns of Jackson, Kelly, Moose, Moran, Wilson and Teton Village. The town of Jackson is located toward the southern end of the valley of Jackson Hole.

The valley is framed by the Teton Mountain Range on the west and the Gros Ventre (pronounced “gro vant”) Range on the east. Jackson’s famous National Elk Refuge is located between the two mountain ranges. Visitors can watch the largest elk herd on earth migrate the refuge throughout the year. The Snake River makes its way through the valley and hosts a number of whitewater rafters, kayakers, and anglers year-round.

Within the town of Jackson, people can enjoy a unique combination of rural mountain living and vibrant urban culture, including local theater, the acclaimed Jackson Hole International Film Festival, and a variety of music, concerts and classic town events. Dining options range from family-style to gourmet with a variety of culinary options. Wander the boardwalk-lined streets and explore the art galleries, cafes, coffee shops, and store fronts. Shoppers will have fun visiting the boutique shops, local artisans, and retail outlets that can best be described as “quintessential Jackson.” And no visit would be complete without a walk through the Jackson town square, adorned on each corner with antler arches.

Winter brings colder temperatures and an abundance of powdery snow, creating the perfect combination for skiing conditions. Average summer temperatures range from 69 – 79 degrees, perfect for spending time outside during Wyoming’s long summer days and lingering summer nights. Spring and fall are favorite times of Jackson locals. Although these seasons do not boast the many activities of summer and winter, they are the ideal times to enjoy hiking in Grand Teton and Yellowstone, horseback riding, mountain biking, and pre-season specials and deals.
