USSA Wes Barron Speed Series
Date: Thursday, January 14 2021 to Sunday, January 17 2021
USSA racers from around the Intermountain region visit for this annual SuperG series on Apres-vous Mountain.
Wesley Barron grew up in Jackson and was a long-time member of the Jackson Hole Ski and Snowboard Club, both as an athlete and a coach. Wes had a passion for the outdoors, including ski racing, and shared his passion with a great many people over the years. Wes deeply loved skiing, his life-long commitment to the sport included racing, coaching, and volunteering his time to help others learn and grow. His contagious enthusiasm and genuine caring inspired the kids of Jackson as well as his fellow coaches at the Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club.
On June 30, 2009 Wesley Barron died rock climbing in Curtis Canyon in Bridger-Teton National Forest, he was 26 years old. His physical absence is dearly missed by all who knew him, and by the many skiers who had the privilege of sharing the mountains with him. However, Wes' spirit and legacy continue to be strongly felt within the community and the ski club.
Through the efforts of the Barron family and the Ski Club the Wes Barron Scholarship Fund has been established in his name, and is making a difference in lives of local children. Thanks to the generous support of donors, Wes' Fund is able to help local kids, with financial need, participate in Alpine Racing. Young athletes are eligible to receive financial assistance with program fees, equipment costs and race expenses. Through this fund Wes continues to positively impact and inspire local kids who otherwise may not be able to participate in the sport.
To apply for a scholarship please fill out the following form and submit it to the Executive Director. Applications for program fees will be reviewed on October 1st and November 15th. Travel requests and special circumstances will be reviewed throughout the winter.
