Terminal Design for New Tram Unveiled
Friday, February 23, 2007 A clock tower will remain as a landmark for Teton Village, as JHMR Board Members recently approved the design that included this feature as part of the lower terminal of the new Aerial Tram at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.
A clock tower will remain as a landmark for Teton Village, as JHMR Board Members recently approved the design that included this feature as part of the lower terminal of the new Aerial Tram at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.
Designed by John Carney, a JHMR board member and Jackson architect, the new lower terminal will be enclosed on three sides by glass; the fourth side will be open and facing Rendezvous Mountain. Stone-clad buttresses and wood beams will make up a facade in keeping with the contemporary architecture in Teton Village.
Wood siding will add architectural details and the loading platform will be 8 1/2 feet higher than today’s, a requirement of contemporary safety codes. Skiers and snowboarders will load from the uphill (or sunnier!) side, unlike today’s layout, which has the tram entrance on the downhill of Nick Wilson’s Cowboy Cafe.
Jackson Hole Mountain Resort has signed a contract for construction with Doppelmayr CTEC, the world's leading tram engineers, and plans for the $25 million replacement are now in an engineering phase. Construction will commence June 2007 and take two summers. Scheduled opening is December 2008.
