Teton Village Unveils New Village Center with The Village Commons

In just over a week, Teton Village will officially welcome visitors to The Village Commons--a new central open space within Teton Village. The Commons will boast a summer plaza, fire pit, popjet fountain, playground and outdoor ampitheater and will be home to a variety of free, fun summer activity. The Commons round out the Teton Village summer experience, highlighted by an aerial tram ride to the top of Rendezvous Mountain. Whether you're a long-time local or just visiting, add a visit to Teton Village to your summer to-do list.

Teton County Fair Starts Tomorrow

It's that time of year: time for cotton candy, classic carnival rides, the biggest farm animals around, some authentic cowboy rodeo and The Nitty Gritty Dirtband. That's right, the Teton County Fair starts tomorrow! This year's headlining performance will be the classic Nitty Gritty Dirtband on Friday, July 24th, tickets are $20. Additional nighttime activity includes the Demolition Derby, the Fair Rodeo, Figure "8" Races and Pig Wrestling. Oh yes, this is sure to be a rockin' good time. A complete fair schedule is below. The event lineup for Teton Village is packed full of great events and activities for the entire family. If you haven't ventured out to "The Vil" yet this summer, now is the time to see what's happening in the heart of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort:

June 10: Art & Antique Show by MC Presents
Teton Village hosts this high-end arts and antiques show in front of the classic Mangy Moose Saloon.

June 20: Aerofest 2009
Known as one of the top spots for paragliding in the country, Jackson Hole's Rendezvous Mountain offers a supreme launch pad and the thermals above the resort keep flyers high. This great event includes Hike and Fly, Spot Landing, Thermal and XC Clinic, and Aerobatic Demonstrations. There will also be a party, BBQ, raffle and music.

June 20: JH Sports 4th Annual Disc Golf Series
Jackson Hole Sports Disc Golf Series hosts competitions once a month through the summer. The summer series kicks off on June 20th so get your friends together and head to the Village for some great team play!

June 20: UCJH Mounatin Bike Skills Clinic
Amanda Carey hosts the United Cyclists of Jackson Hole's free mountain bike skills clinic at Teton Village.

LEAP! Jackson Locals Start the Day with a Sunrise Swim

It doesn't take long to learn that Jackson Hole locals do things a little differently. Maybe it's because we're surrounded by some of the most gorgeous wild places in the country or maybe it's because we live 6,000 feet above sea level and the altitude makes us a little loopy from time to time. This year, it could be the first shining sun we've seen since October that has us rushing to take advantage of those famous Jackson summers.

Whatever the reason, us Jackson-ites definitely love to be outside, from dusk 'till dawn, as often as we can. Yesterday, two born-and-raised Jackson high schoolers put even some of the area's best athletes to shame as they headed into Grand Teton National Park just after 4:00 a.m. Why? To catch a true mountain sunrise before plunging into one of the park's many pristine lakes. The girls darted along the trail for three miles before arriving at the appropriately named "Inspiration Point."

After they watched the sun crest the surrounding peaks, in true Jackson Hole form, the two went a little crazy, possibly intoxicated with fresh air and stunning views, and lept into the barely-not-snow-cold water below. Their morning celebration of life in Jackson is one we should all embrace as we head into the throws of summer, with the Solstice just around the corner.

As these two will tell you, when it comes to summer in Jackson, get up, get out, enjoy and, when you find yourself atop a rock along the bank of a fresh-water mountain lake, JUMP!

Targhee Closes for Season

Grand Targhee called it a season this past Sunday. Of course, the resort celebrated wildly with the 8th Annual Cardboard Box Derby where competitors glided down the slope in homemade cardboard crafts. The sun was shining and people were out enmasse to commemorate a season that will go down in the record books as one of the best in decades.

As the winter comes to an end, Grand Targhee looks forward to a summer full of activity. Events include the 13th Annual WYDAHO Mountain Bike Race on June 4th, the 4th Annual Targhee Fest July 18th - 20th, the 21st Annual Bluegrass Festival August 8th - 10th and the Grand Teton Ultras and Trails Marathon August 30th - 31st.
