Snow King Resort Gets Props for Spring Pond Skimming Contest!

Maybe it's the fact that we're saying goodbye to winter. Or possibly it's the first glimmer or spring, complete with longer days and warmer weather. Regardless of the reason, there's something about this time of year that seems to bring out the most ridiculous, crazy-seeking behavior in all those of us who live in ski towns. A prime example of this is the classic pond skimming competition that takes place at resorts nation-wide come Closing Day time. SkiNet.com has recognized Snow King Resort's cowboy pond skimming contest in this year's "Pond Skimming: Where to do it. How to do it." article. This year's second annual pond skimming competition will take place at Snow King Resort on Sunday, March 21st, Snow King's closing day. March Madness in Jackson Hole

I just had the privilege of having a chat with some of Jackson's most in-the-know people and I'm excited to report back that March is going to be a ridiculously fun month in Jackson Hole.

Let's start with Teton Village. Enjoy FREE live music every Saturday between now and the end of March. This Saturday, the 13th, rock out to Bootleg Flyer beneath the tram dock. The following Saturday, the 20th, Jackson's own legendary Mandatory Air will be getting loud and rowdy in the same spot. Finally, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals will help us go out with a bang with their free live concert on March 27th.

Additionally, help Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and locals remember Doug Coombs during the Coombs Classic on March 28th. Get a free raffle ticket for every time you lap the Headwall in Coombs' honor and you'll be entered to win a variety of great Marmot gear and fun schwag from other event sponsors. Finish it all off with some easter egg hunting and costume party on Easter Sunday.

You'll have to find a way to balance all of the good times in the Village with all of the good times happening in town. Sunday, March 21st, Snow King Resort will host its annual pond skimming competition. Never seen grown men and women speed down a hill only to tempt fate as they try to skim across the pond without falling in? Now's your chance. Follow that up with the famous Snowmobile Hill Climb the following Saturday and Sunday. And if that's not enough, catch the Jackson Moose hockey team play their last local games of the season on March 26th and 27th.

Despite having to start saying our goodbyes to winter, there's something exciting and refreshing about the onset of spring in the mountains. 2010 dick's Ditch Registration Now Open!

Jackson's one and only dick's Ditch is back for the 2010 season. The race will take place this weekend, March 5 - 7 at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Teton Village. Skiers and snowboarders make their way down the banked gully known as dick's Ditch from Lupine Way down to South Pass Traverse. Friday is an optional course inspection day. Prelims will be held on Saturday starting at 9:30. 70% of the field will advance onto Sunday's final round, which begins at 9:30. Pro divisions earn cash prizes of $600 for first place, $350 for second place and $150 for third place.

Jackson Hole Weekend Events: Hole Hearts for Haiti, Cutter Races & More!

As the days start to get longer and the snow continues to fall, it's that time of year for jam-packed weekends here in Jackson Hole!

If you don't have plans for tonight, don't miss:
Hole Hearts for Haiti Benefit Event from 8:00pm - 2:00am. There will be a huge raffle, silent auction including skis, lift tickets, gear, resort hotel stays, dinners and much more! Rally your friends and head to the Pink Garter Theater. There is a suggested donation of $10. 8:00 - 9:30: silent auction and free pizza while it lasts. 8:00pm - 2:00am: live music and dancing featuring Mandatory Air, Chanman Roots Band, Cut La Whut, Jet Black Ninja Funkgrass Unit, Soul Impressions, Mr. Whipple. Must be 21 or older to attend. All proceeds benefit Haiti relief.

Grand Teton Music Festival 2010 Winter Concerts from 7:30 - 8:30pm at the Walk Festival Hall in Teton Village featuring a string quartet. This concerts is the perfect pairing of a classic string quartet of Mendelssohn and the French impressionistic sounds of Debussy.

Margarita Cup #3. Head up to Snow King to watch local races give it their all and enjoy $2 margaritas from Pica's while you take in the action!

The Moose Chase Marathon will be held at Trail Creek Ranch in Wilson. To register, visit moosechase.com. Distances: Moose Chase (30km) at 10:00am, Half Moose Chase (15km) at 10:05am, Mini Moose Chase (1/2km) at 1:00pm. Post race awards and finish feast will be held at Trail Creek immediately following the race with free food will be provided by The Bunnery.
