Yellowstone officials are working to open roads in the west side of the park today. Recreational motorists will be able to enter the park on the west side while crews work to clear an additional 347 miles of roads and 125 acres of parking lots. The remarkable snowfall we received this winter is not making their job any easier. Two of the park's bulldozers have already broken down trying to clear the massive amounts of heavy snow.
Still, those wanting an early peek at a still very wintry Yellowstone can enter the park through the North and West entrances. Roads are open from Mammoth Hot Springs or West Yellowstone, Montana to Norris, Madison, Canyon Village and Old Faithful. Park officials hope to have the East entrance open by May 2nd and the South entrance open by May 9th.
Visitors should be aware of limited park services for the few weeks while roads are cleared. For more information on road openings and park conditions, call (307) 344-7381.
