Despite record snow fall, seemingly unlimited and unbelievable powder days and music acts and events to celebrate, there was one thing missing from the Jackson Hole experience this winter, the tram. But the iconic "Big Red" will be back for the 2008/2009 season and it'll be larger, faster, and boast nearly twice as much horsepower as its original counterpart.
Construction has begun and is expected to be complete by December of this year, just in time for the winter season. The new tram will rise 4,139 vertical feet, pass five tram towers on its journey to the top, carry 100 people (plus one operator) at a time, and transport approximately 650 people per hour (compared to 300 with the old tram).
