7 Reasons to Ski in Jackson Hole This Winter

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort has consistently been voted the best ski and snowboard destination in the U.S. Here are seven unique features that highlight why we love skiing and snowboarding in Jackson Hole so much.

1. The Aerial Tram

Known to locals as “the box,” “the red heli,” or “big red,” the Aerial Tram at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort can carry 100 people to the top of Rendezvous Peak (10,450 feet) in just 12 minutes! The tram makes the mountain’s expert and backcountry terrain accessible to more experienced skiers. Just before docking at the top of the mountain, the tram passes directly above for a view of one of the toughest ski runs at Jackson Hole (and maybe even in the world!).

2. Variety of Skill Levels

While Jackson Hole Mountain Resort offers tons of expert terrain, about 50 percent of the terrain is dedicated to intermediate and beginner slopes. Access to intermediate and beginner terrain is easy right from the base. With a variety of terrain available, there will be new trails for everyone in your group to explore and lots of family-friendly options for little ones.

3. Close to the Airport

We can’t say enough good things about Jackson Hole Airport. It is one of the only major airports located within the boundaries of a national park (Grand Teton National Park). The views upon takeoff and landing are just incredible and the airport provides a beautiful and friendly environment for travelers. The best part about flying into Jackson Hole is how close the airport is to the mountain. We’ve timed it and it takes 36 minutes door-to-door to get from the airport to Teton Village, where the ski resort is. The convenience of the airport makes it easy and stress-free to get your vacation started!

4. Cowboy Powder

We get a ton of snow here in Wyoming and powder hounds know Jackson Hole is famous for its “cowboy powder.” The mountain’s laid back, un-crowded atmosphere means there’s always enough of the fresh fluffy white stuff for everyone. With record snowfalls so far this season, Jackson Hole is the perfect place to find fresh powder turns.

5. Delicious Dining Options

On-mountain dining is so critical in rounding out your ski and snowboard experience and ensuring you’ve got enough energy to tear it up on the slopes. Jackson Hole’s got your taste buds covered with a range of on-mountain options from casual, family-friendly fare to upscale dining. Corbett’s Cabin at the top of the Tram is a must for hot, delicious waffles in the morning. 6. The Sweetwater Gondola

The Sweetwater Gondola opened at the start of the 2016-17 winter season offering greater access to the Casper area of the mountain, including many intermediate and beginner trails. The Gondola provides a fast two-minute ride to mid-mountain in a covered conveyance, making it easy for skiers and snowboarders to access this terrain right from the base.

7. Great Après Scene

When you finish your last run of the day in Jackson Hole, that’s when the party truly gets started. The Mangy Moose right in Teton Village is a must for amazing food, drinks, and live music. Try the nachos! The Handle Bar at the Four Seasons Resort also offers a great après environment, right at the base of the gondolas. The Handle Bar’s patio offers views of the Tetons and cozy fire pits for staying toasty warm. If you head back to your accommodations in downtown Jackson, then you’ve got great options like The Silver Dollar Bar & Showroom at The Wort Hotel, Million Dollar Cowboy Bar, and Hayden’s Post at Snow King Resort at the base of Snow King Mountain for food and fun!
